2008-01-14 1.1 Field 027 - PREVCAT1 n/a
Category of previous employment 1 - In version 1.0 this field was named in error as PREVCAT7. This has now been corrected to PREVCAT1. The 'Notes' section of this field, plus fields 028-032 have been updated to reflect this correction and refer to 'Category of previous employment 1-6' instead of '2-7'
2008-01-14 1.1 Field 065 - SIC2007 n/a
Standard industrial classification 2007 - In Version 1.0 this field contained two identical code descriptions (taken from the UK Standard Industrial Classification of Economic Activities 2007 (SIC 2007)): 3200 'Other manufacturing' and 3290 'Other manufacturing'. Code 3200 'Other manufacturing' has therefore been removed. Also, codes '9999' 'Not known' and 'XXXX' 'Question not answered' have been added to the classification list

1.0 First release of Version 1.0 documentation
n/a
Version 1.0 of the DLHE 2007/08 documentation contains a number of differences to the documentation for the 2006/07 DLHE survey. The changes are listed below:

Graduate email address information is now collected
The default postcode list has been updated
A field has been added to the record to allow those graduates who completed more than one qualification in a reporting year to be surveyed for two instances
Q2 now spells out that Section C is for those undertaking further study, training or are registered as a research student so that those employed as researchers do not complete this section
An instruction has been added to the questionnaire at Q5 to facilitate better linking between this question and Q1, particularly in relation to those working self-employed or freelance
Field 065 uses SIC 2007 to describe the industries graduates are working in at the time of the survey. Field 008, which used SIC 92 is now not used
F015 - The options 'No: the qualification was a formal requirement (1)' and 'No: successful applicants were expected to have the qualification (2)' which featured on the 2006/07 DLHE questionnaire have been removed and replaced with one option for the 2007/08 questionnaire. The new option os 'No: the qualification was a formal requirement/expected (5)'
Four options have been removed (each an individual field linked to the one question) from the question 'Why did you decide to take the job you were doing on 14 April 2008?' and four new options have replaced these. The options removed are: 'To gain experience in order to get the type of job I really want (F020)', 'To broaden my experience/to develop general skills (F022)', 'In order to pay off debts (F023)' and 'In order to earn a living (F024)'. The four new options are: 'To gain and broaden my experience in order to get the type of job I really want (F059)', 'In order to earn a living/pay off debts (F060)', ' It was the right location (F061)' and 'The job was well-paid (F062)'. These changes reflect the most popular reasons graduates would cite, as reported by institutions
A new option 'Already worked there' has been added to field 025 as institutions reported this as being a popular reason that hadn't until now been offered as an option
'Training' has been added to F027 so the option is now 'On a training/sandwich placement'
The order of questions at the beginning of Section C has been reworked and one question removed (the question removed is 'Which professional qualification or other qualification were you aiming for') to ensure those studying for a 'professional qualification' indicate they are doing so appropriately
A new option 'other (F63)' has been added to the question 'Why did you decide to undertake further study, training or research?'
There is a new status for field 050: this question must be asked when speaking with the graduate as part of a telephone interview
A new field (field 058) has been added to enable the Department of Health to identify those graduates that completed courses in healthcare and were employed by the NHS at the time of the survey
A new field (field 064) has been added to collect the text written at Q7 to enable the Research Councils to undertake analysis of companies involved in research and training schemes (where students receive part of their training in an industry-based environment)
The three questions which asked for other reasons, other ways etc. (these were questions 14, 16 and 26 on the 2006/07 questionnaire) have been removed

Changes to the section headings of the questionnaire for April 2008:
The heading for Section B now explains that those undertaking voluntary or other unpaid work on the census date should complete Section B
The heading for Section C is now in the same style as that for Section B: it now reads 'Your further study, training or research on 14 April 2008'. Also the supporting text reflects the clarifications made to the questionnaire to ensure Section C is completed by graduates who were undertaking 'further study or training, or were registered as a research student' on the census date and not those employed as researchers
The heading for Section D changed from 'Newly qualified teachers' to 'Qualified teacher status only'. The supporting text after this heading also changed slightly to make it clear that those graduates who have gained qualified teacher status, but but were not teaching on the census date, should go on and complete the relevant questions in Section D
he heading and supporting text for Section E was revised to ensure those graduates who completed their qualification by studying part-time go on and complete the relevant questions in this section. The heading now reads 'Did you gain your qualification in 2007 by studying part-time?'
