HESA is not covered by the Freedom of Information Act 2000. However, we will do our best to answer any queries we receive.

HESA is not a public authority under the Freedom of Information Act 2000. HESA is a not-for-profit private limited company owned by its members. The members are Universities UK and GuildHE - the two representative bodies of Higher Education Institution in the United Kingdom. HESA is funded by subscription from all of the universities and higher education colleges throughout the UK.

Links with public authorities

HESA collects data from all publicly funded HE institutions in the UK. HESA has formal agreements with government departments, agencies and devolved administrations (statutory customers) to provide the data they require to fulfill their public functions.

Get information from HESA

A wide variety of information is published on the HESA website in various formats. The Statistics section has links to all the material published online.

HESA releases a range of statistical publications. From 2011 these publications are all published in electronic downloadable formats. You can find a list of HESA publications in the publications section. A list of future publications is given in the pulications schedule.

The Information Provision service can supply ad hoc data to a client's specifications. Small enquiries (up to ~10 numbers) can be supplied free of charge. Larger data enquiries are provided under license and are subject to a fee.
