Dear Colleague
This Circular contains links to documents and further guidance that are required for the C03018 data collection. Institutions are therefore requested to review the information contained in the following documents:
DLHE Methodology 2003/04Access codes required for the submission of data will be issued to record contacts in March 2005 when the data collection system opens.
A new valid entry has been added to Field 4, METHOD. Code '8' Deceased should be used when the institution is informed that the leaver has died. Default codes should be returned in all other fields.
A successful COMMIT will generate TQI tables 5 – 7 as detailed below (Tables 1 - 4 are produced as part of the student record collection). Institutions are advised to review these tables before the collection closes.

Table 6: Job categories information

POPDLHE
Records that are in the DLHE target population are those that meet the criteria for inclusion as defined by the Specification of DLHE Target Population (POPDLHE). Within the downloadable file, records have been identified as APR if the leaver obtained the qualification between 1 August 2003 and 31 December 2003 and JAN if they obtained the qualification between 1 January 2004 and 31 July 2004. Please see details of the POPDLHE file structure.
POPRC
Records in the Research Council population are those supplied by the research councils for research council funded students whose funding is completed, regardless of whether or not they have been awarded their qualification. Records in POPRC will also be in POPDLHE if they meet the criteria for inclusion in POPDLHE.
The CASCOT coding tool has been designed to assign a code to a string of text. In the case of the SOC this string of text is typically a job title obtained from the DLHE survey. It has been developed by the Warwick Institute for Employment Research, and released under licence to institutions via HESA for the purpose of assisting with coding of text in the DLHE return. The software is available to download from the POPDLHE icon within each institution's student record submission page at http://submit.hesa.ac.uk.
Institutions should consider Institutional Liaison as a general first point of contact for any HESA issue.
