This is the first release of the coding manual for the 2012/13 Student record following consultation with the sector during autumn 2011. Please be aware that there are some differences to fields, coding frames and guidance to those published in the Student record circular.
This release is exclusive to the specification of new fields and to existing fields where the coding frames have changed. Please see Summary of Changes document for more details.
Circular 11/03 (December 2011) announced that detailed data about Level 3 Qualifications on Entry is now being required from institutions in England for all HEFCE-fundable entrants to full-time undergraduate courses. The circular explained that Discussions about expanding the scope of the data that is provided to institutions by UCAS are currently underway between HESA, HEFCE and UCAS, these discussions are still on-going. HESA is therefore unable to offer any detail of coding structures for these additional data at this time. HESA will publish the additional guidance to institutions as soon as it is possible to do so. HEFCE, UCAS and HESA recognise the needs to provide guidance as soon as possible.
Please note that the coverage of the StudentOnModule.APEL field has been altered from that previously suggested in Student circular 11/03 and at the series of seminars run in January 2012. The field is no longer required to be returned by institutions in England. The coverage of the field is all modules at institutions in Wales only.
