C12042 Estates Management record

HESA has published a draft release of the coding manual for the C12042 Estates Management record 2012/13. This release includes full details of the changes to the record following the record review in a pdf document, along with guidance on the inclusion of commercial space data.

The aim of this release is to provide the sector with a preview of what the manual is likely to look like following the record review as well as presenting the new content. As a result of the review, many of the fields, coding frames, and guidance are different to those published in the 2010/11 Estates Management Statistics record. The full manual release for 2012/13 will follow later this summer.

Please note that as part of the record review it was decided that from 2012/13 the data collection will be known as the Estates Management Record rather than the Estates Management Statistics record.

The record review process

The record review commenced in June 2011 and a Review Group of funding body representatives, institutional representatives (with expertise covering a number of estates areas about which data is returned) and members of HESA staff has been working on the development of proposals for changes to the record. Also represented was the Environmental Association for Universities and Colleges (EAUC), as well as the National Planners Group, British Universities Finance Directors Group (BUFDG), and the Universities and Colleges Information Systems Association (UCISA). Colleagues representing the Universities Safety and Health Association (USHA) were also involved in order to facilitate the integration of Health and Safety as well as Fire Safety data items into the Estates Management record. A sector consultation on the proposed changes was held during February and March 2012.
