Course : New Information Requirements

  • Subject Proportion Indicator
  • Collaborating Organisation
  • Closed Course

  • Field: SBJPROP Subject Proportion Indicator

Previously SBJBID. This new field will collect percentages instead of limited codes. This field is a pair with SBJQA, both limited to a maximum of three occurences.

Rationale: To allow more accurate allocation of courses to subjects by allowing institutions to give their own notional split for courses which covers more than one subject. This field is not intended to reflect the detailed balance of subjects studied by an individual student.

    Codes/Descriptors:

A percentage in the range 000.1 to 100.0

You are invited to comment on the practicality of this proposal.

    Field: COLLORG Collaborating organisation

To identify partner organisations in collaborative provision.

Rationale: HEFCE will be developing new funding routes for collaborative provision and consequently needs information about the types of organisations institutions collaborate with. In future it may be necessary to expand this coding frame to collect detailed information about individual named organisations.

    Codes/Descriptors:

    • 1000 Large private company
    • 2000 SME
    • 3000 Overseas education provider
    • 4000 Other UK education provider - private
    • 5000 Other UK education provider - public sector
    • 6000 NHS
    • 7000 Other public sector organisation
    • 8000 Charity
    • 9000 Other

You are invited to comment on the practicality of this proposal.

    Field: CLSDCRS Closed Course

To allow identifiation of closed courses. These are courses that are restricted to certain groups of people and are not generally available to any suitably qualified candidate. For example, where a course is only available to employees of particular companies, that course is closed.

Rationale: There is an emerging interest from HEFCE in closed courses and as such information is needed to identify these.

    Codes/Descriptors:

    • 0 Not a closed course
    • 1 Closed course
