Where to start?
Coding manuals: Within each data stream every reporting year has its own coding manual webpage. These coding manuals include details of the coverage, requirements and timescales of the data return.
The current manuals can be accessed from the links in the above table.
Circulars: Collection circulars provide further guidance for the collection year, with particular reference to the requirements of HESA's statutory customers. These can be accessed from the Circulars library.
How to submit data to HESA
Data is submitted via the HESA Data Collection System.
Assistance with using the data collection system can be found at Help with the data collection system.
How to validate data
Validation kits are provided by HESA to enable institutions to test their data locally against insert-stage validation ahead of the data submission period. Institutions are strongly encouraged to use the validation kit as part of their data preparations.
