This user guide provides help with the following functions of the Online DLHE Survey System.
Only those institutions that use the control panel to indicate their use of this service will be shown on the front end institution selection page of www.dlhe.ac.uk used by graduates to locate their institution.

Configuration of the system for each institution is via a simple control panel, accessed through the HESA data collection system. The control panel opens three weeks prior to the start of the 'Initial contact' period. Access and PIN codes will be sent to the DLHE contact at each institution prior to the control panel opening. For help with registration please view the Registration help guide.
There are five sections to the control panel:
The student identifier and PIN fields can be used by institutions to aid the matching of responses to the DLHE target population list (POPDLHE). For both of these fields their completion can be defined as mandatory, optional, or not used. If mandatory or optional are selected then the length of the fields can be specified and validated by the system.
The student identifier can be specified up to 20 characters, and the PIN can be specified up to ten characters in length. If no length is specified then any length (up to the maximum lengths) will be allowed by the system.
Note: When completing the control panel you should ensure that any required changes are saved during the three week control panel configuration period prior to the online survey opening for graduate responses.
Institutions can download completed responses to the DLHE questionnaire from the HESA Data Collection system using the access code and PIN distributed for the system.
From the collection page select the 'Download data' option
Input the dates you wish to download data between and the preferred format of the file. Data can be downloaded as either Comma Separated Value (CSV) or Fixed Length Format.
Note: Data can be downloaded as often as required during the data collection period.
Choose the programme you wish to open the data with e.g. Notepad or Excel and click 'ok'.
The downloaded data can then be imported into a student record system. Please consult your system provider for details of how to import the data or for any troubleshooting relating to the import.
For assistance with importing a CSV formatted file into Microsoft Excel please refer to Importing CVS formatted data into Microsoft Excel.
