
The HESA subscription is based on a flat rate institutional fee, plus a variable student per capita fee, dependent on the extent of data being collected and the services being provided by HESA. The subscription is usually invoiced in August for the period 1 August - 31 July.
There are three current levels of subscription as follows:
Full subscribers will normally complete the full range of HESA data returns.
2013/14 rates for this level of subscription are:
Institutional charge: £1,825 (plus VAT if applicable)
Student per capita charge: £1.49 (plus VAT if applicable)
Unistats subscribers will normally complete the following HESA data returns:

Subscribers at this level will need to return a KIS Course Record only.
Subscription rates for this level are based on an institutional charge only, which is determined on a sliding scale depending on the number of courses being returned within the KIS Course Record.
The 2013/14 rates for KIS Course only subscribers are:

| 6-20 Courses | £1,277 plus VAT |
| 21-50 Courses | £1,460 plus VAT |
| 51-100 courses | £1,643 plus VAT |
| 100+ courses | £1,825 plus VAT |
Full and Unistats subscribers will also be expected to submit a return to the National Student Survey which is managed by, and charged for separately (where relevant) by, HEFCE on behalf of the four UK HE funding bodies.
