A visual representation of the collection schedule is available, illustrating data collection activity throughout the year.
Coding manuals: Within each data stream every reporting year has its own coding manual webpage. These coding manuals include details of the coverage, requirements and timescales of the data return.
The current manuals can be accessed from the links in the above table.
Circulars: Collection circulars provide further guidance for the collection year, with particular reference to the requirements of HESA's statutory customers. These can be accessed from the Circulars library.
Data is submitted via the HESA Data Collection System.
Assistance with using the data collection system can be found at Help with the data collection system.
Validation kits are provided by HESA to enable institutions to test their data locally against insert-stage validation ahead of the data submission period. Institutions are strongly encouraged to use the validation kit as part of their data preparations.
If you have any queries relating to data collection and submission please contact the Institutional Liaison team.
HESA also provides training seminars across the main datastreams at both introductory and advanced levels. View the seminar schedule.
Alongside the training seminars HESA offers an institutional visit service for bespoke training on the datastreams.
The Admin-HESA mailgroup serves as a forum through which institutions can air discussion topics. Within this mail group are separate lists for each data stream e.g. HESA-Student, HESA-Estates etc. These lists are used to circulate email news alerts from HESA regarding data requirements, coding manuals and validation kit releases.
Colleagues involved in data collection and submission are encouraged to join relevant lists. To join Admin-HESA please email liaison@hesa.ac.uk.
Updates will also be posted on the HESA Twitter feed: @ukhesa
