The Student – Data Futures 22056 coding manual and the countdown to 1 August 2022

As I enter my tenth year at HESA I’ve been reflecting on the changes I’ve seen during my time in Liaison and Training. Alongside the relentlessly nice people working here, the other main attraction at HESA is the job satisfaction from helping providers and that no day is ever the same. There is always a new challenge to meet and an opportunity to help others.

Data Futures is a transformation milestone for HESA and providers alike, and Alison Berry’s blog at the start of the year was a timely call to action. Everything is ‘go’ for Data Futures and the project is on track as we move towards the 2022/23 collection. The Liaison inbox is handling Data Futures queries and the Training team are publishing e-learning. Two sets of live webinars, Student Record (Data Futures) Introductory for Student record contacts and for Student Alternative Contacts, will be running between March and June 2022. At the centre of this activity is the hero of HESA returns: the trusty coding manual.

The Student - Data Futures 22056 manual is now live. The HESA coding manuals are a one-stop shop, delivering the technical information and supporting guidance for providers collecting the data and student record software suppliers.

The Student - Data Futures 22056 coding manual is the confirmation of the 2022/23 collection as the successor to the current Student and Student Alternative collections

The Student - Data Futures 22056 manual is the culmination of months of project work on Data Futures, and showcases years of work and feedback from providers to improve and refine how we present our guidance. This marks an evolution in how we support and inform our data colleagues and customers. Those familiar with the previous Student records should find the new manual reassuringly familiar. The coverage statement gives you the lowdown on which students need to be returned and which don’t. The data dictionary contains clear and comprehensive guidance on each of the fields, including when and how to return them. Where possible, we have produced further guidance documents for specific coding scenarios.

Alison told us that Data Futures is ‘Data Now’, and the Student - Data Futures 22056 coding manual is the confirmation of the 2022/23 collection as the successor to the current Student and Student Alternative collections.

At the time of writing this blog, there are 100 working days and counting until providers need to collect data for this return from 1 August 2022. Now is the time to review the coding manual so that you’re ready to meet these new requirements. As ever, our Liaison team are on hand to support and inform, as are our Training team. The live webinars ahead of the 2022/23 collection year are still available to book on our website, so please visit the Training events page to check availability.

The clock ticks ever louder as we approach the 1 August 2022 collection deadline. I am proud to work alongside committed and expert colleagues as we guide providers towards the 2022/23 collection.
