Notes

This field contains the subset of codes applicable to Initial Teacher Training courses in England from the Instance.MODE field in the Student record.

With reference to code 01, the funding councils (which for this record is the DfE) have agreed that a common definition of full-time is that course years must involve a minimum of 24 weeks study.

In contrast to the HESA Student record, valid entries 63 'Dormant - previously full-time' and 64 'Dormant - previously part-time' can be used when a student was active for part of the reporting period. If a student begins study and takes a formal leave of absence prior to the DfE census date of the second Wednesday in October, with the intention of returning to study in a future reporting year, the student should be coded as dormant. This will exclude them from receiving funding for the current academic year.

Where a student has changed their mode of study within the reporting year, the record should show the current or latest position. However students involved in re-sits after the completion of the taught or structured part of their course should not have their mode of study up-dated. For example a full-time student who finishes the courses in June but has to take resits in September should not be re-coded; whilst they were active on the course they were a full-time student.
