This field records the student identifier which is to be unique to each student. It is intended that the identifier is to be transferred with the student to each ihigher education provider (HEP) he or she may attend. The objective is that the use of this number will facilitate the accurate tracking of students throughout their experience within the sector for which HESA collects data.

The same Student.HUSID can occur twice when an individual has been awarded two qualifications which fall into different survey periods. The Student.APRJAN field is used to indicate which survey a response applies to. An individual making two responses should be included in the dataset twice, allowing their responses to be linked to the relevant qualifications rewarded. The combination of Student.HUSID and Student.APRJAN must be unique.

For an individual student the Student identifier used in this record must be the reference number returned for that student in the appropriate Student record.
