Coverage

Notes

Proportion not taught by this institution should relate to the FTE reported in Module.FTE.

If this field is anything but zero, indicating that some part of the course is taught elsewhere then Module.TINST must be completed.

This field relates to the proportion not taught by the reporting institution's staff, and not the location at which the teaching takes place.

It is expected that students out on placement or exchange will be shown as zero in this field.

Zero is an acceptable default value for institutions in Wales for modules that are linked only to FE instances.

The length of this field is 5 characters, however the move to XML enables data to be returned with or without leading zeros or the decimal place, e.g. 005.0 or 5.0 or 5

Doctoral Training Partnership (DTP) students

Longstanding HESA guidance dictates that students are returned by a single institution to prevent double-counting. In the case of students on the above programmes, where the partnership is a collaborative one, the application and administration of such students is handled jointly with no concept of a single institution responsible for the student’s teaching/supervision.

The majority of the consortia involved in this type of provision have the concept of a 'registered institution'. Where applicable, this institution alone should be responsible for returning the student to HESA. Where no such concept exists, a single institution should be nominated from amongst the consortia for this purpose.

The existing Module.TINST and Module.PCOLAB fields should be used to return the student split across each institution. A unique module is required to record each different collaborating institution and the proportion of tuition.
