This field documents whether the student is in receipt of one or more discretionary awards in addition to a bursary award (recorded in Student.BURSLEV). Providers will be able to award higher bursary awards than a trainee’s degree class would allow if they have outstanding potential. All providers will be allocated a small limited uplift approximately 3% of their total bursary funding in addition to their core bursary allocation, to award these discretionary higher bursaries to eligible trainees. Use of the discretionary bursary fund is restricted to trainees in the bottom and middle tiers only and cannot be used to augment bursary payments to trainees who are already eligible for the top bursary level.
