Notes

This field should contain the percentage of the student's time for the CourseStage that is spent on placements or in work experience. This would also include language and other years abroad. See separate document for details on classifying learning and teaching methods.

Work-based learning is now required to be included in calculations for CourseStage.PLACEMENT. It is not to be included in the calculations for CourseStage.SCHEDULED.

This field can contain a value in the range 0 - 100.

The sum of this field, CourseStage.INDEPENDENT and CourseStage.SCHEDULED must equal 100. Definitions of learning and teaching classifications are provided in the Calculations of assessment and learning and teaching methods guidance.

Teaching placements in medical, nursing and dentistry courses should be treated as placements, and not work based learning.

Where the total number of hours on placement exceeds 10 hours per credit, the total number of hours should be capped at 10 hours per credit.

If the course requires the student to undertake one of two placements, the two placements should be treated as if they were a single module. It may be appropriate to adopt the same approach where other modules are offered in a way that means students must take one, and only one, module out of a choice of many. In these cases it will normally be appropriate to only include the most popular of these modules.
