This document summarises the main changes to the Staff record for 2014/15. Please note that any changes made to the 2014/15 Staff record after the release of the manual will be documented in the Revision history.
New entities/fields

Changes to existing entities/fields

This will only be applicable to members of staff where Contract.LEVELS is coded A0, B1, B2, C1, C2, D1 or D2 or Contract.ACEMPFUN is coded 4. Prior to this change, only three occurrences were permitted by the schema. | To facilitate the analysis of members of staff working across up to six cost centres. |
Contract.CLINSUB | Clinical sub-specialty | A new valid entry will be added to accommodate changes to the medicine speciality groups and sub-specialities listed by the Medical Schools Council. Addition of valid entry:

Person.CURACCDIS | Current academic discipline | This field will change to allow up to three occurrences to be returned for each instance. Person.ECRSTAT | Early career researcher status | This field will be removed from the record. | This field relates exclusively to the Research Excellence Framework undertaken by higher education providers (HEPs) in October 2013 and is therefore no longer required for the Staff record. |

Valid entries will be added to enable members of staff in the voluntary sector to be identified as working in either the UK or in an overseas country. Addition of valid entries:

Person.REFUOA2014 | REF Unit of Assessment | This field will be removed from the record. | This field relates exclusively to the Research Excellence Framework undertaken by HEPs in October 2013 and is therefore no longer required for the Staff record. |
Person.RESAST | Research assistant | This field will be moved from the Institution.Person entity to the Person.Contract entity to enable research assistants to be identified on the basis of their contract(s). | To facilitate the validation and analysis of research assistants on the basis of their contract(s). Prior to this change, the contract relating to the research activity could not be explicitly identified. |
In addition to the changes above, the underlying data type for a number of fields will change to remove the 'ReasonForNull' attribute: Contract.ENDCON, Contract.STARTCON and Person.DATEFHEI. This will simplify the schema for users, as a lack of need for this attribute was identified.
