This field identifies collaborating providers with a UK Provider Reference Number (UKPRN) from the UK Register of Learning Providers.

Optional for all REFData records

This field should be returned where the student has a funded (or partially funded) place as part of a Doctoral Training Partnership or Centre for Doctoral Training at the provider.

In the case of students at partnerships where the application and administration is handled jointly with no concept of a single provider responsible for the student’s teaching/supervision students should still be returned by a single provider for their entire programme to prevent double-counting.

The majority of the consortia involved in this type of provision have the concept of a 'lead provider’ for individual students. Where applicable, this provider alone should be responsible for returning the student to HESA for their entire programme. Where no such concept exists, a single provider should be nominated from amongst the consortia for this purpose.

The lead provider should return the UKPRN for all other providers involved in the partnership in this field, along with associated values in the REFData.UOA2014 and REFData.UOAPCNT fields.

Where supervising providers do not have a UKPRN the generic codes below may be used:

• 4002 Other Non-UK provider
• 4003 Other public body in the UK
• 4004 Other private body in the UK

Where the UKPRN for a provider is not known, values can be obtained from the UK Register of Learning Providers..

Collection of this information will enable collaborative partnerships to be reflected in research funding allocations where appropriate.
