KIS recrod 2014/15
KIS record introduction
Version 1.0 Produced 2014-01-16
The KIS record has been collected since 2012/13 from subscribing Higher Education Providers (HEPs) and Further Education Colleges (FECs) throughout the devolved administrations of the United Kingdom. The data collected as part of the KIS record is used extensively by various stakeholders and is fundamental in the formulation of the Unistats dataset.
Record specific detail
The KIS record is collected to aid prospective higher education students in making a decision about what and where to study. The Key Information Sets (KIS) provide comparable sets of information about full or part-time undergraduate courses and contain information that prospective students have identified as most important to inform their decisions about future study. The emphasis of the coverage of the KIS record is for any undergraduate course that someone can register for in the next academic year. Full details of the coverage of this record can be found in the coverage statement on the coding manual.
The KIS record collects data about full and part-time undergraduate courses available for application for the next academic year. A wide range of data items are collected, including course details, accommodation information and fee data. The detail of the different items collected can be found in the Data items document located on the coding manual landing page.
The KIS data is collected prospectively, reporting in May-August on courses which will be commencing in the following academic year. For example, the 2012/13 KIS record was collected in 2012 and reported on courses commencing in the 2013/14 academic year.
HEPs will submit data to HESA through the Data Collection System and FECs will submit data to HEFCE through the Extranet.Need help?
