Notes

Providers should record the expected duration of the mobility at its outset, it is not typically expected that the duration will be updated where the student decides to extend or curtail their mobility.

Where a period of mobility spans more than one reporting period, it should be split between each reporting year. Unless by splitting it up, less than 4 weeks ends up as the duration for one of the years. In that case the extra few weeks are to be returned in the year with the majority of the duration.

Examples:

1. A first year student went to work in France (from 26 June 2012 until 26 September 2012):

MOBTYPE MOBDURA MOBLOCA MOBSCHEME
Year 1 02 5 FR 03
Year 2 02 8 FR 03

Instance.Mobility would be returned in both years and Instance.LOCSDY = U.

2. A first year student went to study in France from 3 July 2012 to 15 August 2012.

MOBTYPE MOBDURA MOBLOCA MOBSCHEME
Year 1 01 6 FR 01

Instance.Mobility is returned only in the first year, when Instance.LOCSDY = U. Nothing is required for this mobility in the second year.

3. A student (who began their studies in 2011) went to work in France from 11 July 2012 to 15 August 2013.

MOBTYPE MOBDURA MOBLOCA MOBSCHEME
Year2 02 59 FR 01

Instance.Mobility is only returned in the middle year, which has the majority of the mobility.

If providers record the lengths of periods of mobility in numbers of terms and semesters then this should be converted into the number of weeks their term/semester lasts. If a student was studying for a full year - it would just be the teaching weeks that are recorded.

Number in weeks between 1 and 52 should be returned.

52-60 weeks may only be returned if the durations must be summed together due to crossing over HESA reporting years, as described in example 3.
