QuestionQ6. What was your approximate gross pay for your main employment, before tax?

The information captured is for what the HE leaver considers to be their MAIN job.

To ensure that DLHE pay data are reliable and comparable, it is important this field meets expected response rates.

A response to either Employment.EMPPAY or Employment.EMPUNPAID is expected if the following codes were used for Q1 Student.ALLACT 1 'Working full-time' or 2 'Working part-time'.

The Employment.EMPPAY returned should be that which is stated by the HE leaver, e.g. 25499.99 and not rounded.

A numerical value (xs:decimal), which may be returned to an accuracy of two decimal places, e.g. 25499.99.

The currency to which this amount relates is recorded in Employment.EMPCURRENCY.

Higher education providers (HEPs) will have the option to convert the figure returned in Employment.EMPPAY and/or Employment.ESTEARN when a currency other than pound sterling is used. This conversion to pound sterling can happen at any point during the DLHE schedule and does not need to be the exchange rate as at the census date. When HEPs undertake a conversion in Employment.EMPPAY the HEP must ensure that the Employment.EMPCURRENCY is then returned as 1 'Pounds sterling'.

Employment.EMPPAYPERIOD must also be returned where EMPPAY is returned, in order to derive annual salary.
