This document summarises all communications associated with the 2017/18 Finance collection, from first publication of known changes to the record through to collection closure. Please refer to the Revision history document for full technical list of changes to the specifications.

HESA issue regular communications during the life of a collection:

• Circulars: announcements to interested parties concerning or issues relating to the collection. Circulars are always made available on the HESA website for later reference, and emailed out to the mailgroup for the collection.
• Coding manual release overviews: these document iterative changes to the technical documentation that define the form of the data to be submitted, as well as being a place to host resources associated with collecting that data.

2019-01-07 Manual release - version 1.5

This release of the coding manual includes the following:

• Data collection schedule - Sign off date changed to the 15th January 2019.

2018-12-04 Manual release - version 1.4

This release of the coding manual includes the following:

• Table 12 - Further guidance added after paragraph 5 to provide clarity on the finance return.

2018-11-27 Manual release - version 1.3

This release of the coding manual includes the following:

• Data collection schedule - Further guidance added to provide clarity on the return date.
• Table 5 - Guidance amended to add clarity.

2018-11-15 Manual release - version 1.2

This release of the coding manual includes the following:

• Guidance for Finance tables - Guidance has been amended to replace OfS with Research England funded.
• Notes on research income from charities - Guidance has been amended to replace OfS with Research England.
• Table 5 - Guidance has been amended to paragraph 13,17 and 22.
• Table 7 England - Guidance has been amended to funding body grants - England.
• Table 8 - Guidance has been amended to paragraph 29.

2018-10-19 Manual release - version 1.1

This release of the coding manual includes the following:

• Derived field specifications.
• Table 12 - Guidance has been amended to include FTE.

2018-09-13 Manual release - version 1.0

This is the first release of the coding manual, containing the following documentation:

• The full suite of table documentation,
• The Data collection schedule,
• The C17031 Non-functional template.

Several changes have been made to Table 6 - Tuition fees and education contracts, in line with requests made by the OfS.

Three additional tables have been added to the collection for 2017/18, please see the Table specific pages for details.
