This document summarises all communications associated with the 2017/18 Provider profile collection, from first publication of known changes to the record through to collection closure in June 2018. Please refer to the Revision history document for full technical list of changes to the specifications.

HESA issue regular communications during the life of a collection:

Circulars: announcements to interested parties concerning or issues relating to the collection. Circulars are always made available on the HESA website for later reference, and emailed out to the mailgroup for the collection.
Coding manual release overviews: these document iterative changes to the technical documentation that define the form of the data to be submitted, as well as being a place to host resources associated with collecting that data.

2018-05-23 Coding manual release - Version 1.4

The Derived field specifications have been updated to include the latest provider names following a number of legal name changes.

The Derived field specifications have also been formatted as HTML rather than a Zip file to aid accessibility and allow individual fields to be bookmarked. In addition, revision histories are included for each field to allow for the analysis of changes over time. It is the intention for HESA to publish derived fields in this format going forward.

2018-04-18 Coding manual release - Version 1.3

As of the 1st April 2018 the Office for Students replaced HEFCE, therefore any mention of HEFCE has been removed and replaced.

The following documentation has been added under the 'Submission process and quality assurance' section:

The File structures for downloadable files, this specifies the files that can be downloaded from the data collection system, along with the schema definitions
The Web report guide, this documents the reports generated after a successful transaction and the checks contained within them.

2018-02-05 Coding manual release - Version 1.2

The following documents have been added under the 'Submission process and quality assurance' heading:

The Quality rules as well as the Validation kit which allows quality checks to be run locally
The HESA XML data entry tool
The How to use the HESA XML data entry tool

Also, under 'Data specification' heading the following document has been added:

The Derived field specifications

2017-11-30 Coding manual release - Version 1.1

Version 1.1 of the coding manual includes the following:

Release of the 'Data collection schedule', added under the 'Overview' section of the coding manual.

2017-08-10 Coding manual release - Version 1.0

Version 1.0 of the coding manual includes the full technical specification of the record for the 2017/18 reporting period. The schema, data fields and guidance are all now available.

This release includes the following changes:

Six label changes to valid entries in Campus.COUNTRY, moving HESA guidance from the labels to the guidance section.
