Additional information

Further analysis of the Graduate Outcomes data has taken place and HESA is proposing that the previous activity derivation (XACTIV03) is replaced by a new one (XACTIVITY) and used in published outputs. Visit XACTIVITY to find out more about the key differences of this new derived field. Providers are therefore recommended to avoid using XACTIVE03 and use XACTIVITY instead. We will be removing XACTIVE03 when we publish a new iteration of the data.

This field describes the activity of a Graduate from the survey results, based on a matrix of the most important activity Graduate.MIMPACT, All activities Graduate.ALLACT, together with Emplyoment.EMPINTENSITY, SelfEmployment.BUSEMPINTENSITY and Study.STUINTENSITY and Graduate.CONSTART.

Where more than one activity is returned for a graduate Graduate.MIMPACT identifies the most important activity.

Schema validation exists to enforce that Graduate.MIMPACT is completed and returned once for all leavers (Minimum occurrences 1 and Maximum occurrences 1). The specification assumes that the activity code returned in Graduate.MIMPACT for a leaver has been returned in Graduate.ALLACT1, ALLACT2, ALLACT3, ALLACT4, ALLACT5, ALLACT6.

Technical Specification

Set XACTIV03 to 99 (not in publication population) for the following graduates who do not meet the criteria for inclusion in the standard Graduate Outcomes publication population:

MIMPACT is NULL, the empty string or 0 (question on most important activity has not been answered)
ALLACT01-11 are all NULL, the empty string or 0 (the graduate has not answered the activity question)
MIMPACT contradicts with the responses in ALLACT01-11 (e.g. MIMPACT = 01 and ALLACT01 is NULL, the empty string or 0)
