This field records the previous student instance identifier used by the previous reporting provider, before reporting responsibilities where taken over at the submitting provider.

All instances where Course.COURSEAIM = D00, L00 or L80 and a collaborative arrangement is in place in which the student is transferring or has transferred between providers.
This field must be returned where a provider has taken over reporting responsibilities, for students on a collaborative doctoral programme, from another provider.
Instance.NUMHUSPREV must be returned even where the provider taking over reporting responsibilities has used the same Instance.NUMHUS for a student.
This field must be returned in all reporting periods after a student has transferred into the reporting provider. Please see the 'Further guidance' page for details.

The character set chosen will support Welsh and Gaelic languages as well as all European and most other languages using a Latin-based character set.

Files must be encoded with UTF-8 and schema validation will be in place to ensure this. Providers must specify the encoding used in their XML files in the first line of the file (i.e. <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8" ?>) and to ensure that their files are actually saved with that encoding. If XML files are edited with some text editors and the encoding is not specified or does not match the actual file encoding, there may be problems when submitting these files for validation.
