Additional information

This derived field is created in both the Student record (Cyy051) and the AP student record (Cyy054). In the Student record it uses the data in Instance.MODE; AP student uses the MODE field on the rolled-up Instance_End analysis table.

Full-time instances are those where a student is studying full-time (for more than or equal to 24 weeks in the academic year), is on thick, thin or FE sandwich courses, is on a study-related year out and writing-up and dormant previously full-time and students changing to dormant previously full time.

Part-time instances are those where a student studying part-time, on block release, during the evenings only, full-time for less than 24 weeks in the academic year and writing-up and dormant previously part-time and changing to dormant previously part time.

From 2013/14, FE students in England must be returned as 99 in MODE, and cannot be recorded using other valid entries. Consequently, all such students derive to valid entry 4 'FE students in England' in XQMODE01. FE students in other administrations must use other MODE codes and thus continue to derive to other valid entries in XMODE01 as appropriate.

This field re-allocates writing-up and dormant students to their previous mode and should only be used in conjunction with the qualifications obtained population (XPQUAL01) or Graduate Outcomes population (XPGO01).
