Providers should not use *J data to complete this field due to the UCAS definitions not aligning to the HESA SEXID field. It is expected that providers survey their students to gather this information. Advance HE recommends the use of the terms 'other' and 'prefer not to say' for people who associate with the terms intersex, androgyne, intergender, ambigender, gender fluid, polygender and genderqueer. HESA does not include a 'prefer not to say' option. Advance HE has a number of resources relating to gathering information across the protected characteristics covered by the Equality Act 2010. Providers are expected to reconfirm this information with the student, on at least an annual basis. |
