Standard definition:
The HESA qualifications obtained population is a count of student instances associated with the award of an HE qualification (excluding HE institutional credits) during the HESA reporting period 1 August to 31 July. This includes qualifications awarded from suspended study (e.g. dormancy) and writing-up status. It excludes awards to incoming visiting and exchange students, and students primarily studying abroad.
The HESA qualifications obtained population is a count of all student instances associated with the award of a HE qualification (excluding HE credits) during the reporting period.
This derived field is created in both the Student record (Cyy051) and the Student Alternative record (Cyy054). The Student Alternative record makes use of fields from a rolled-up Instance_End analysis table which reflects the position of the student in the last active instance period.
If there are multiple QualificationsAwarded.QUAL fields associated with the instance, and at least one (but not all) would qualify for inclusion in the qualifications awarded population, then the instance is included in the population.
Students studying primarily abroad are identified through their location of study (i.e. LOCSDY = 'S'). For the purposes of the Student record, Instance.EXCHANGE valid entries Y and Z are not used in determining location of study.
Note that validation for Subject Knowledge Enhancement (SKE) instances will ensure that any qualifications reported are not included in this population (or the Graduate Outcomes population).
