The Governor entity records the dates associated with a person’s governor status. The return should record the number of all governors including staff and non-staff over the reporting period.

Members of a HE providers' governing body are eligible for the 2020/21 Staff return.

The Office for Students will stop collecting governor equality data through the annual monitoring statement (which is ceasing), so this has been introduced for the 2017/18 staff collection. Additionally, Welsh and Scottish funding councils have decided that they are also interested in this data.

The staff governor data will be compared to the governor data returned in the HE-BCI data collection. In the HE-BCI return they have to report the number of governors at the census date of the 31st July of the reporting year including vacant seats so there may be a variance in the two returns.
