Fields required from institutions in All fields
return to field list
This field records where the credits recorded in EntryProfile.CRDPTSTU are as a result of APEL.
All EntryProfile entities at providers in England where applicable.
|Valid entries and labels|
Accreditation of Prior Experiential Learning (APEL) is the identification, assessment and formal acknowledgment of learning and achievement that occurred prior to entry to a course of study, but not in the context of formal education or training.
Where a provider recognises a student’s prior experience and as a result the student does not need to complete part of their course, this field is returned to indicate this. This is used in combination with the EntryProfile.CRDPTSTU and EntryProfile.CRDSCM which identify the number of credits that the student is recognised as bringing in and the credit transfer scheme they are applicable to respectively.
As APEL is being used in place of a module or modules of the student's course at the provider, the EntryProfile.CRDSCM in this case should be the scheme applicable to that course. For example, as a result of APEL, a student is not required to complete a module that is usually required for their course at a provider. The module is worth 60 CATS credits. EntryProfile.CRDPTSTU would be returned as 60 with EntryProfile.CRDSCM = 01 and EntryProfile.APELCRD = 01.
A StudentOnModule record should not be returned for APEL modules.
Where a student is exempted from a module or modules on the basis of a combination of APEL and non-APEL credits, APELCRD should only be coded 01 where the APEL portion constitutes the majority of the credits.
Quality rules relating to this entity are displayed here.
|Reason required||To be able to distinguish between those students bringing over credits from a previous award and those entering with Accreditation of Prior Experiential Learning (APEL).|
Data type: APELCRDCodeContentType
|Change management notes||Additional guidance added to clarify how this field should be coded, when students are exempt from a module or modules on the basis of a combination of APEL and non-APEL credits.|
