The HESA Provider profile record specification is based on a logical data model which defines the entities covered by the record and the relationship between these entities.

In data modelling terms, an entity is a thing about which information needs to be held. Examples in the Provider profile record include the Campus and the Provider entity.

The data model may differ from the file structure required for the submission of the data, as a number of attributes can be expressed as repeating elements for efficiency. However, for the Provider profile record, the data model and the file structure for submission are identical. For further details, please see File structure.

  • A Provider must have one or many Campuses
  • A Campus must belong to a Provider
Provider to Academic HESA Cost Centres
  • A Provider may have one or many Academic HESA cost centres
  • An Academic HESA Cost Centre must belong to a Provider
