Notes

This entity collects information regarding the qualification(s) students hold on entry to their Engagement for two purposes: tariff calculations for level 3 qualifications and Undergraduate qualifications for teacher training students in England, Northern Ireland and Wales.

It is important that this information is returned at the start of a students Engagement I.e. in the reference period in which the first associated StudentCourseSession begins. It is not expected that this would be added to or amended following this unless data quality issues are identified.

Level 3 qualifications (all providers)

Where the students highest qualification on entry to their Engagement (recorded in EntryProfile.HIGHESTQOE) is at level 3, the qualification type, grade and subject of the tariff bearing, level 3 qualifications held by the student are recorded. This entity should be returned multiple times where the student holds multiple tariff bearing qualifications on entry. Only one subject can be recorded per level 3 entry qualification.

For providers in Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales is it encouraged to supply this information for all students whose highest qualification on entry is at level 3 however this is only required for UCAS entrants.

For providers in England this is additionally collected for any students whose permanent home address on entry is in the UK and whose highest qualification on entry is at level 3 or is an access to HE course.

HESA will use this data to calculate the tariff scores held by students on entry to their Engagement.

Teacher training students in England, Northern Ireland and Wales

Undergraduate degree information is required for students on teacher training Courses in England, Northern Ireland and Wales with one of the following study intentions:

  • Postgraduate Certificate in Education or Professional Graduate Diploma in Education

  • Postgraduate Diploma in Education

  • Professional Graduate Certificate in Education

The type, result and subject(s) of the undergraduate qualification are collected in EntryQualificationAward.QUALTYPEID, EntryQualificationAward.QUALRESULT and EntryQualificationSubject.SUBJECTID. Up to five subjects can be returned however more than three subjects would generally be regarded as exceptional.

Where the student does not hold an undergraduate degree or the details are not known, the entity should not be returned for these students.
