Staff in Higher Education 2016/17

Release date: 1 February 2018

Staff in Higher Education provides detailed data on academic and non-academic staff employed at UK higher education providers.

The publication includes information on the personal and demographic characteristics of staff, as well as information on contract terms and employment type. Many of the tables are broken down by higher education provider, or by cost centre (a proxy for academic department).

Two new tables have been added for 2016/17 looking at the teaching qualifications held by academic staff with a teaching component to their contracts. As of 22 February these free tables include data for higher education providers in England only. Equivalent data for providers in Wales and Northern Ireland will be added to these tables soon. Teaching qualification data is not a compulsory part of the HESA Staff data return for HE providers in Scotland.
