Higher Education Providers (HEPs) are embedded in the economy and communities of the UK.

HE-BCI data was first collected by HESA for the academic year 2008/09. For that year, Part B data was published as part of the ‘Resources of Higher Education Institutions 2008/09’ publication.

The HE-BCI survey is the main vehicle for measuring the volume and director of interactions between UK higher education providers and provides a detailed picture of these economic and community interactions:

  • Spin-off and start-up companies
  • Contract and collaborative research
  • Intellectual property
  • Consultancy
  • CPD
  • Regeneration projects
  • Public engagement

The survey is broken into two parts with both qualitative and quantitative questions.

Part A asks about HEPs' strategy, policies and priorities. Click here to see the full Part A questionnaire and answer options for 2013/14.

Part B collects data on the number and financial value of business and community interactions. Click here to see the Part B survey template for 2013/14.

Higher education providers whose data is included within this product will qualify for a discounted 'HE Provider price'.
