How the association between neighbourhood deprivation and degree attainment differs by family background and the use of area-based measures in widening participation activity.

When we started asking users about their needs for data on higher education (HE) staff, many people mentioned a need for longitudinal data.

We announced the review of the Higher Education Business and Community Interactions (HE-BCI) survey in early 2019, but we had to pause initial work looking at user needs and priorities during the pandemic.

New briefing provides an overview of a new non-monetary job quality composite measure developed by HESA using the Graduate Outcomes survey.

The Staff record gives us information about who works in higher education and their terms of employment. It also gives us some information about what staff do.

Following discussion with the Data Futures Programme Board, and our recommendation, the Statutory Customers have agreed to extend the sign-off deadline for the Student 22056 record across all nations. To align with the updated sign-off deadline, we have extended the final submission deadline. 

The extensions to Student 22056 deadlines are as follows: 

We are launching the first consultation in the Staff major review. We are focussing on gathering evidence from the sector about what changes we could make in the Staff record.

We will review the responses in conjunction with requirements from our statutory customers. We will then produce a proposed data specification for consideration in a second consultation. 

When we first designed the Aggregate Offshore (AOR) specification in 2007, there was limited agreement on the terminology used across the sector to define transnational education (TNE). In response, we used correspondingly broad definitions.

We have now relaunched our major review activity across data collections and we are working on the expansion of the Student record from 2024/25 onwards. This will mean changes to the Initial Teacher Training record and the Aggregate offshore record for providers in all nations. 

We recently completed the May interim submission for the 22056 Student record. This is one of two interim submissions ahead of the statutory sign-off deadline in October 2023.
