Student Alternative record replaces AP Student record

The AP Student record has changed its name to the Student Alternative record.

The AP Student record was launched in 2015 to collect student data from Alternative Providers (APs) as distinct from Higher Education Institutions (HEIs). In England the Higher Education and Research Act 2017 introduced a new regulatory framework for higher education, rendering the concept of 'Alternative' providers obsolete.

From 2019/20 providers in England that are registered with the Office for Students will be known as registered providers in either the Approved or Approved (Fee cap) categories. To minimise the regulatory burden on providers, those providers who previously submitted data in the AP Student record can continue to make this data return which will now be known as the Student Alternative record

The name change comes into effect today with the release of the 2019/20 Student Alternative coding manual.
