New Chair of HESA Board

Professor Simon Gaskell, Principal of Queen Mary University of London, has been appointed Chair of the HESA board. Professor Gaskell replaces Professor Dame Julia King, Vice Chancellor of Aston University, who stood down as Chair and board member on 27 September 2012.

Professor Mark Smith, Vice Chancellor of Lancaster University, has been appointed to the HESA board, having been nominated by Universities UK. Professor Smith replaces Professor Dame Julia Goodfellow, Vice Chancellor of the University of Kent, who also stood down on 27 September.

Alison Allden, Chief Executive of HESA, said: "I would like to thank Professor Dame Julia King for her work as chair for the last year, and thank both her and Professor Dame Julia Goodfellow for all of their contributions to the HESA board. I am pleased to announce the appointment of Professor Simon Gaskell as Chair of the HESA board, and the appointment of Professor Mark Smith as a board member."
