Data Futures Programme update

The Data Futures Programme aims to transform the data collection infrastructure for the UK HE sector. The Programme announced previously that it was undertaking a further design phase to support the move from continuous to discrete collections.

As with any large-scale transformation project, Data Futures has had to address a range of factors, not least statutory, financial, technical, operational and commercial considerations.

The recent design work focused on the move from continuous to discrete collections, simplifying the technology platform and improving operability. Alongside this design work, HESA has decided to deliver the next phase of the programme using an alternative delivery approach.

The Data Futures Programme has continued to progress over this period, with work on the Collection Specification progressing well. Time is being taken to review the technical development of the HESA Data Platform to ensure that in-year data collection is delivered in the best way for the sector.

We will continue to consult with HE providers and representative groups (including UUK, GuildHE, IHE, HESPA, AHUA, SROC, UCISA and ARC), as well as working closely with Statutory Customers. We will communicate with the sector following agreement on the design and way forward with the project.
