Graduate Outcomes statistics assessed by Official Statistics regulators
The Office for Statistics Regulation assessed HESA’s Higher Education Graduate Outcomes Data against the Code of Practice for Statistics and found that it demonstrates the trustworthiness, quality and value of Graduate Outcomes statistics.
In a letter published on the OSR website the regulator praised HESA’s consultation and communication with HE providers, ONS experts, and data users. The assessment singled out HESA’s use of feedback in the design of the survey, development of the Provider Portal to involve HE providers in the data collection process, consultation on the presentation of statistics, and the detailed information provided for data users.
The assessment remarked on the insight and value provided by the experimental statistics drawn from the first iteration of the annual survey. The results capture the wide range of outcomes and experiences of graduates and provide invaluable information for prospective students, researchers, and policy makers.
The letter also acknowledges HESA’s ongoing work and longer-term aspirations to improve the Graduate Outcomes survey and statistics. The assessment supports HESA’s plans to improve response rates and combine supporting information into an accessible user guide, and suggests future improvements through linking Graduate Outcomes to other data sources.
Graduate Outcomes statistics for graduates from the 2018/19 academic year will be published later this year. Survey fieldwork is currently underway contacting graduates who finished their studies between November 2019 & January 2020.
About Graduate Outcomes
The Graduate Outcomes survey is the biggest annual social survey in the UK and captures the perspectives and current status of graduates. All graduates who complete a higher education course in the UK are asked to take part in the survey 15 months after they finish their studies.
