Derived fields are created and included as part of data delivery and are based upon data from one or more of the collected fields, coding frame enhancements and / or other derived fields. Details of derived field and the fields / enhancements upon which they are dependent are provided as information for end users of the data.
Data is supplied to providers and statutory customers via delivery files or downloadable files from the HESA Data Platform (HDP). Coding frames contain the valid entries applicable to the fields within a collection. More than one field can share a coding frame where they have valid entries in common. Coding frames are enhanced with additional metadata detailing how valid entries may be grouped or segmented, these are called 'groupings' and 'markers' (coding frame enhancements are primarily used in the creation of derived fields and validation rules). Details of coding frames and their enhancements are provided as information for end users of the data.
