  • Qualifications awarded (2013/14)

In the 2013/14 HESA Student return, University of Ulster incorrectly coded 175 nursing students, mostly full time, with a qualification of a first degree. These students have all been correctly and legitimately awarded first degrees and graduated in December 2014. The issue is one of timing, as these students were active in September 2014 and should not have had qualifications included in the HESA Student return for 2013/14. These qualifications will be removed from the 2013/14 Student return and included in the 2014/15 Student return.

In addition to the above, 25 students, mostly part-time from a range of subjects, were incorrectly coded with a qualification of a Master's degree. These qualifications will be removed from the 2013/14 Student return and will be included in the 2014/15 Student return.

N.B. This has been updated and is now correct in the 2013/14 v1502 Student record.

  • Qualifications awarded (2019/20, 2020/21)

In 2019/20, The Open University underreported the number of qualifications awarded due to administrative delays as a result of changes to assessment timetabling. There is a reduction of around 8,225 qualifications awarded in the 2019/20 data return in comparison to 2018/19. Most of this drop was seen among part time undergraduate students. The reduction is reflected in a lower population of survey respondents for the Graduate Outcomes survey of an estimated 7,900 responses. These qualifications were returned in the 2020/21 student data, the 2020/21 Graduate Outcomes population reflects this.

  • Qualifiers from designated courses (2016/17)

In 2016/17, UK College of Business and Computing had a significant increase in qualifiers from designated HND courses, from 265 in 2015/16 to 1,015 in 2016/17. This was due to a series of successful events aimed at encouraging HND students to complete their qualification. These events were marketed at students who began a course in earlier years but had not achieved a qualification during the usual timeframe of the course. As such, HND qualifiers in 2016/17 included cohorts of students who enrolled in past years back to 2012/13.

Middlesex University has confirmed that the significant change to some of their Estates Management record ratios and data items relating to area, teaching space and property costs between years 2011/12 and 2012/13 is due to the closure of their Trent Park campus.

This has resulted in the following ratios appearing as null: Water consumption per student and staff FTE; Waste mass per student and staff FTE; Academic office net internal area per academic staff FTE; Support office net internal area per support office staff FTE; Gross internal area in metre2 per student and staff full-time equivalent FTE; Scope 1 and 2 carbon emissions per student and staff full-time equivalent FTE.
