Notes | It is a requirement that NHS contracts (Contract.NHSCON) are returned for contracts with clinical academic status (Contract.CLINICAL coded either 1, 2 or 3). Consequently, clinical academic status can only be returned in Contract.CLINICAL if the member of staff holds an NHS contract (or NHS honorary contract) with an NHS Trust (or equivalent Public Health England for Public Health Academics, Local Authorities for Academic GPs or primary/community healthcare contract). The majority of clinical academics have substantive paid higher education contracts and honorary unpaid contracts. These contracts should be coded 1. Some have separate paid contracts with both a HEP and an NHS employer (often called A+B contracts). These contracts should be coded 2. A few individuals have genuinely joint HEP/NHS contracts. These contracts should be coded 3. In each case the contracts together constitute employment in a single job agreed by two employers. NHS Honorary contracts can be held by clinical academics employed by HEPs in a research and/or teaching capacity, and who also provide services for NHS patients, in NHS facilities. |
