Notes

Where it appears that two codes are equally applicable, the nearest valid entry code to 01 should be used.

The previous employment should indicate the nature of employment for staff before the staff members current period of continuous employment. When this is being coded for a member of staff who was previously not returned to HESA, it is expected that this field will indicate the nature of the employment prior to being employed at the higher education institution.

It is expected that once the member of staff has entered employment with the HEP the code returned in this field will remain the same until they leave the HEP.

Where a break in continuous service occurs and an individual has not been employed elsewhere during the break, valid entry code 21 must be returned in this field. If a person signed a contract with the reporting provider whilst still in their previous employment this code should not be used

Valid entry code 05 and 06 can only be used where the staff members current period of continuous employment started before 2012-08-01.

Valid entry code 09 should be used where the nature of employment is or was within the NHS, in the broadest sense. This should include employment in an NHS body such as a Trust or Primary Care Trust and should also include employment in general medical or general dental practice. Even where other codes apply (for example general practitioners who consider themselves self-employed), this code should be used.

Valid entry code 20 can only be used where the staff members current period of continuous employment started before 2014-08-01.

For the purposes of this field The University of Buckingham is considered to be a higher education institution (HEI).
