Notes

This entity records the HESA course(s) that the course relates to. Discover Uni links to HESA course information that is one or two years in arrears. For C24061 HESA course identifiers for 2020/21, 2021/22 and 2022/23 should be provided.

Where a course links to more than one course on the HESA record all relevant Course.COURSEIDs should be given. This multiple linking should only occur where for systems or technical reasons the same KISCourse links to multiple courses on the HESA record, and should not be used to group cognate courses.

The same HESA course identifiers may be reported for different courses where the provider admits to, or markets, the same course under different names.

In adding links to HESA courses, only the HESA courses which are the embodiment of the course for which a record is being produced should be linked. For example, where a provider is producing two Discover Uni records for two similar courses one with a compulsory sandwich year (KISCourse.SANDWICH = 2) and one where the sandwich course is not available (KISCourse.SANDWICH = 0), then the Discover Uni record where the sandwich course is not available should only link to the non-sandwich course on the HESA and vice-versa.

Where the teaching provider changes as part of a franchise arrangement, only courses taught by the new teaching provider should be linked to. For example Poppleton has a franchise agreement with provider A for year 1, this then ceases when a new agreement is made with provider B in year 2. Only links to the years that are taught by provider B should be included. If the only data available to link to is for provider A (the previous teaching provider), then no links should be made. This is to ensure that the data is accurately representing the experience of that course.

This is a reminder to ensure that providers are aware of the importance of linking KISCourses to all previous years of the course via the HESACourse or ILRAims entities, where applicable. In particular, where the previous data is correct, it is key that providers link to the most recent year of the course as the NSS aggregations are only incorporating one year of data.

This means that where the most recent year of the course has not been linked to, the NSS aggregations may include other courses at the same subject level to form the statistics. This may lead to unexpected NSS statistics being displayed on the Discover Uni website.
