Transferring information for valid entries and validation rules into spreadsheets
This can be done by creating a web query to retrieve data from web pages that contain tables or lists of valid entries. There is further information in Microsoft Excel Help, and has been tested in MS Office 2003, and briefly:
- In a browser, open the web page which contains the information you would like to import into Excel
- Copy the web page URL from the address bar
- Open Microsoft Excel
- Go to:
Data Menu - Import External Data - New Web Query
- In the Address dialogue box paste the web page URL
- Click the Go button to the right of the box. This will display the page in the New Web Query window (it may take a minute or so to load large pages)
- Select the data you would like to import by clicking the yellow arrow icon
- Click the Import button at the bottom right of the New Web Query Window and import data into Excel as directed.
- Save the file
