Notes

All of the boxes ticked by the HE leaver must be coded.

One of the activities returned in this data item must be identified as the HE leaver's most important activity in Student.MIMPACT.

Should the HE leaver be on leave, including maternity, paternity, sickness or other leave, but is still on the payroll of the employer this should be recorded as both valid entry 01 'Working full-time'/02 'Working part-time' and valid entry 08 'Doing something else'.

Code X 'Ineligibility or explicit refusal' should be used when the question is not answered by the HE leaver due to either ineligibility or explicit refusal. This code can only be used when either valid entry 07 'Deceased' or valid entry 08 'Reply received explicitly refusing to provide information' is returned in Student.STATUS.

As this is an element that can occur more than once, only return the number of elements required for the data. Padding out the number of elements so that the maximum number of occurrences are returned will result in a validation error, as values will either be repeated, or the use of a default or unknown code will make the data inconsistent.

If the HE leaver completes more than one activity but does not identify which is the most important, in the first instance the higher education provider (HEP) should try and contact the leaver. If this is not possible the HEP can use their judgement to decide the most important.
