Short nameESTEARN
Description

This data item identifies HE leavers with more than one job on the census date and what their estimated total earnings are for a year.

Applicable toEngland Northern Ireland Scotland Wales
Coverage

All HE leavers where Employment.JOBSNO is coded 2-9.

QuestionQ10. If this was not your only employment on [the census date], what do you estimate your total earnings would be for a year to the nearest thousand (£) before tax? (Pound sterling only)
Notes

A numerical (xs:integer) value must be coded. For example:

  • £15,000 should be coded as 15000.
  • £6,000 should be coded as 6000.

A response to the question is expected if the following codes were used for Q2 (Employment.JOBSNO): 2-9.

Higher education providers (HEPs) will have the option to convert the figure returned in Employment.EMPPAY and/or Employment.ESTEARN when a currency other than pound sterling is used. This conversion to pound sterling can happen at any point during the DLHE schedule and does not need to be the exchange rate as at the census date. When HEPs undertake a conversion in Employment.EMPPAY the HEP must ensure that the Employment.EMPCURRENCY is then returned as 1 'Pounds sterling'.
