Notes |
This field records the training bursary awarded to the student. Bursary levels will vary according to the level of study of the student, their degree classification if applicable and the subject specialism in which they wish to train to teach. A postgraduate student will only hold one bursary. Undergraduate students on a course in maths, physics, or maths and physics which leads to QTS can qualify for an 'Undergraduate bursary' (code B). Further guidance on the types of bursary, and the amounts available, may be found in the Department for Education's Funding manuals:
Bursaries at undergraduate level Code B ‘Undergraduate bursary’ is currently the only bursary available to those studying at undergraduate level, if the qualification is in the subject of maths, physics or maths and physics (or additionally computing and languages if the student is on an Undergraduate Opt-in programme) and leads to qualified teacher status (QTS). This bursary is awarded in the final (or penultimate and final) year of the student’s course, but it is expected the valid entry will be returned in every year for the student to be eligible. Undergraduate Opt-In The Undergraduate bursary is applicable to students choosing to undertake the Undergraduate Opt-in scheme (Student.ENTRYRTE=09). These are students who have chosen to ‘opt-in’ to an ITT course leading to QTS who would then be eligible to receive an Undergraduate bursary in their final (or penultimate and final) year of an Undergraduate course. Those students opting in to a Bachelor’s course will be entitled to a £9,000 bursary, Master’s opt-in students will be entitled to an £18,000 bursary. They will need to be returned in the ITT record from the year they commence an ITT course. Providers will need to ensure that the correct Student.YEARPRG is returned to reflect this, which will indicate the number of years the student has been studying an Undergraduate course for. The table below contains examples of how Undergraduate Opt-in students would be coded.
Veteran Teaching undergraduate bursary From C23053, code C label is now Veteran Teaching undergraduate bursary (previously Service Leaver bursary and Troops to Teachers undergraduate bursary). There has been no change in the meaning of the code. This valid entry has been added to record where an undergraduate trainee has left full time employment in the British Army, Royal Air Force or Royal Navy within 5 years of beginning the programme and meets other associated funding eligibility criteria. The Veteran Teaching undergraduate bursary will be paid to eligible trainees in the final two years of their programme. However, this valid entry should be returned in all years of the trainee’s ITT course in order to capture their eligibility to receive it. For example, if an eligible trainee is on a 2-year programme then they will be paid the bursary for both years of the programme, whereas if they are on a 4-year programme they will only be paid for the final two years. Funding - Trainees must meet UK Student Finance eligibility criteria. They don’t necessarily need to have applied for Student Finance but they must be eligible to receive it. Veterans eligible for Bursary - Have left the services in the last 5 years at the start point of their undergraduate degree with QTS are eligible to receive the bursary DfE funded subjects The DfE organises subjects into categories and makes funding available for some categories. If funding is available for a category, then all subjects within that category can get the funding. For courses with multiple subjects, follow the guidance to submit the subject in SBJCA. When more than one subject is returned the tags surrounding the main subject code should include the attribute Main="1". For example if the subjects of the teaching qualification gained are French and History, with French as the main subject, then French should be returned as: <SBJCA Main="1">100321</SBJCA>. Biology
Grants Valid entry 'Grant' should be used for employment based routes only and where providers are applying for a grant for the trainee. Additionally, trainees should be eligible for the grant, employed in a state maintained school (including academies and free schools), and studying a priority (funded) subject. Code 6 - 'No Bursary awarded' has been updated to 'No Bursary, Scholarship or Grant awarded' for the C23053 collection. This is to ensure the field covers all funding available. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
