Description

This field contains outward part (first characters (maximum of 4) up to the first space) of the postcode for location of employment of the respondent. This field may also contain the valid entries -1 (Don't know), -2 (Not answered), -3 (Refused) and XXXX (Question not answered (default)).

Postcodes are compared against the National Statistics Postcode Directory (NSPD) for validation (August 2010 file). Where an invalid postcode was supplied by a respondent, but a town, city or area was supplied in WRK_UK_LOC (F_Q10A), then a postcode may be input from Default postcodes for the DLHE return. Only if a postcode remains unknown after this process, are records returned with default code unknown (-1).

Note: The HESA derived fields F_XLOCGRA01 and XLOCNA01 are coded from WRK_CNTRY (F_Q9), WRK_UK_LOC (F_Q10A) and WRK_OUTCDE (F_Q10B)).
