Valid entry code 1 should be used where the higher education provider (HEP) generates a new contract record following a change in the employment of a member of staff for example following a promotion.

Where a fixed term contract comes to an end often the staff member can become redundant, however in this scenario it is expected that code 3 is used in preference to code 5.

Valid entry code 9 can include dismissal and ill-health, as well as staff that TUPE over to another organisation.

Valid entry code 10 this code is to be used by providers in England and Northern Ireland not opted into the voluntary submission of staff outside of the coverage, when the staff member moves from an academic post to a non-academic contract, taking them out of the coverage of the record.
